Studying in the USA: An Advantage in the Job Market

Although obtaining an American degree means devoting money, time, and energy to the endeavor, the result often delivers a high return on investment in terms of language skills, acquired savoir-faire, and many times salary, if students are able to enhance the value of their experience with recruiters.

American degrees, especially graduate degrees, enhance any resume and emphasize the international context that so many companies are seeking today, whatever the position they are recruiting for. Having obtained these degrees implies that the candidate is capable of performing in an international environment.

American teaching methods emphasize the importance of group work and prospective employers want to hire young graduates who have acquired the skills necessary to work effectively as part of a team.

“Experience in team projects and group work can make all the difference in hiring decisions and can even translate into 10% – 20% more in terms of starting salary,” according to Martine de Maintenant, consultant with the Mercuri-Uval Recruitment Agency.

A Perfect Command of English

Mastering English today is es-sen-tial! Recruiters are unanimous: not speaking fluent English is a major handicap for young graduates today, especially for those aspiring to managerial positions. What better than studying in the United States to reconcile your academic knowledge of the language with the reality of English as it is spoken every day?

“The truth today is simple: English has become the language of reference for all industries, whether in sales, technical fields, research, or development,” explains Martine de Maintenant. “Even if total mastery is not necessarily required, a good candidate must be able to converse easily, write reports, and participate in meetings and video-conferences. A “high school” level of English is far from sufficient,” she adds.

At CEFAM, 100% of the classes are taught in English

Students have the choice of over ten other languages in addition to English. CEFAM students can choose from a wide variety of foreign languages within their academic program. Choices include Spanish, Chinese, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese, Russian, Vietnamese, and German. Class time will be completed by individual study using the Tell Me More instructional language software which is available free of charge to all interested CEFAM students.
